Mint and Coriander Chutney

Mint chutney usually known as Green chutney or hari chutney is one of the most flavorful Indian condiment which can be prepared in just few minutes. It is a blend of mint, coriander, yogurt, garlic, onion, lemon juice, chilies and salt. Mint chutney can be serve with kebabs, fritters, on a toast or as a dip.

Preparation time:  10 minutes
Cooking time: 5 minutes
Makes: 2 cups

Ingredients

2 cups mint leaves
1 cup coriander leaves (Cilantro) with stems
2 green chilies, roughly chopped
2 cloves garlic
1 medium onion or 2 shallots, roughly chopped
1 lemon juiced, approx. 3 tablespoons
2 tablespoon yogurt
Salt to taste

Directions

Wash the herbs in a colander in cold water thoroughly to remove all the grit.

Add all the ingredients in a blender. Blend on medium speed until the mixture has a smooth consistency.

Add little water if required, one tablespoon at a time. The chutney should not be runny but should be of medium consistency.

Pour the mixture into a bowl, and serve with grilled meats or as a dip or as a condiment alongside any Indian meal.

Tip

Do not discard the coriander stems as they are packed with flavor. They can always be used in making chutney or dressings.

The chutney will stay good in the refrigerator for up to a week in an air tight container.mint and coriander chutney
